ROLEX
The Rolex Building is a concept which draws on the Owner’s requirements and imagery to emphasis the design.. The building location on one of the major streets in Bangkok allows the opportunity to use an unique building shape. The building was considered as a sculpture in the round since it is free standing and since it can be seen on all sides.
A prime architectural objective was to use circular forms in a way which blend themselves into the main building mass. The circular forms are also fitting in terms of the building orientation and street approach.
The planning has been developed from the Owner’s requirements which combined security, ideal working conditions, and public identity.
The main interior space is the showroom. This space is two and one half stories high and is the focal point of the building. It is entered at an angle to Wireless Road which gives it an important exposure to the approaching public. The main entry can serve all directions eliminating secondary entrances except for internal circulation. The ceiling of the lobby is a circular mural by the renown Thai Artist Panya Vijinthanasarn. It depicts time and astrology in both Eastern and Western mythologies. A circular staircase in the lobby leads to the upper office areas which display artwork from various artists around the world
The exterior of the building is a very important design element. The basic geometric shapes are covered in rough textured Thai granite. Openings that are punctuated in the mass are imported green glass, which acts as a relief to the massive walls. A fountain and water fall on the exterior ties the building to its own landscaped area.
The building is highly automated. It has the latest security and safety equipment. Because of the nature of the precision watches, the indoor air quality is of international standard.
Since the project is in the formative stage we invite any input or comments from the Owner.
